Fun facts about Gemstones

There are a vast arrange of gemstones available to use within jewellery making, providing us with a wide range of colours and properties to choose from.


Below are some fun facts about just a few of my favourite gemstones:


Usually found in: Peru, Brazil, Colorado, Virginia as well as in Australia and Madagascar.

Colour: Greenish/blue

Believed properties: It is believed that amazonite has healing powers that help with physical ailments, emotional issues as well as filtering out stresses, healing traumas and soothing energies.


Usually found in: Brazil and Uruguay

Colour: Deep purple

Believed properties: It is believed that Amethyst naturally relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability and balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety. Alleviates sadness and grief, and dissolves negativity.


Usually found in: Canada, Finland, Russia, Australia, Mexico, USA and Madagascar. 

Colour: Can be a range of colours, it usually has a dark base colour with metallic-looking colour plays of blue, green, yellow, and red.

Believed properties: It is believed that Labradorite is a useful companion through change, imparting strength and perseverance. It balances and protects the aura, raises consciousness and grounds spiritual energies. 

Rainbow Moonstone:

Usually found in: Sri Lanka, Brazil, Australia, Myanmar and Madagascar. 

Colour: Usually colourless with a blueish sheen.

Believed properties: It is believed that the Moonstone gemstone symbolises new beginnings, is a stone of inner growth and strength. It soothes emotional instability and stress, and stabilises the emotions, providing calmness. It is also believed that Moonstone enhances intuition, promotes inspiration, success and good fortune in love and business matters. 

Pink Opal:

Usually found in: Brazil, South Africa, India and Madagascar.

Colour: Pink

Believed properties: It is believed that Pink Opal is helps calm and soothe your emotional body, clearing and calming the heart to bring a sense of love, peace and hope. 

Rose Quartz:

Usually found in: Australia and Peru.

Colour: Light pink

Believed properties: It is believed that the gemstone Rose Quartz is the stone of universal love. It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz properties purify and opens the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace.
